Trump ally suggests ‘one religion’ to go with ‘one nation under God’

Donald Trump’s former national security advisor, Michael Flynn, has stirred up outrage once again, this time for seeming to suggest the US has “one religion.”

“If we are going to have one nation under God, which we must,” Flynn said over the weekend at a ‘ReAwaken America’ tour event in San Antonio, Texas, “we have to have one religion. One nation under God, and one religion under God.”

Flynn served briefly in the Trump administration in 2017 and has since been accused of being a conspiracy theorist, as he’s repeatedly referred to the 2020 presidential election as fraudulent. Flynn was pardoned by the former president last year after he pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about contact with Russian officials, though he did attempt to withdraw his plea, which he said the FBI pressured him into.

While Flynn remains popular among many Trump supporters, his “one religion” comment outraged his critics, some referring to the conservative as a “traitor.”

"Sure glad we live in a Constitutional Republic instead of a theocracy,” Representative Ted Lieu (D-California) tweeted in response to Flynn’s comments.EditDelete

At another point during the event, Flynn directed his attention at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) and the House Select Committee investigating the January 6 Capitol riot.

He blasted the committee and called the recent grand jury indictment of Steve Bannon an “abuse of freedom of speech.”

“This is the crucifixion of our First Amendment freedom to speak, freedom to peacefully assemble. It's unbelievable,” Flynn said, even comparing Pelosi to Pontius Pilate, the man who ordered Jesus Christ be crucified.

Other speakers on the ‘ReAwaken America’ tour include Trump allies Roger Stone, My Pillow founder Mike Lindell, and InfoWars host Alex Jones.
