US Navy base in Bethesda on lockdown after reports of active shooter & bomb threat

A naval base in Bethesda, Maryland has been put on lockdown after receiving a tip-off by phone that there was a bomb in one of its buildings. There are also reports of an active shooter threat at the location.

All personnel at Naval Support Activity Bethesda (NSAB) were advised to shelter in place, the official Twitter account of the base reported. The public was asked to stay away from the area. Only emergency traffic is allowed to go in or out.

The phone tip on Wednesday morning claimed NSAB’s Building 10 was the subject of a bomb threat. No details were immediately offered about the possible shooter.

NSAB is best known for providing operational support for the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
